A tale of two cities
If you are looking for a city with a modern vibe yet rooted in tradition and history, then Tel Aviv is what you’re looking for.
Located on Israel’s Mediterranean coast, the young city of Tel Aviv was founded by Jewish immigrants in 1909 on the outskirts of the ancient port city of Jaffa. The two cities have now merged and parts of the old city have been renovated, turning Jaffa into an attractive site for visitors to explore. Many artists have also set up shop there.
Tel Aviv is one of the most exciting metropolitan cities of the Mediterranean countries and a melting pot of cuisines, culture, accents and world views. Famous for its 1930s Bauhaus buildings, clustered in the White City’s architectural area and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is a destination that design aficionados will love.
With perfect white-sand beaches, a nightlife that just won’t quit, a welcoming atmosphere, great museums, the creamy walls of the White City and the beautiful old city of Jaffa, it’s no wonder that Tel Aviv is one of the most visited cities in the Middle East.
Liberal and modern
Tel Aviv is an icon of liberal, progressive Israel, where the LGBT community is welcomed and celebrated. The city also boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, great bars, exciting nightclubs, world-class restaurants and lively flea markets.
Walking and biking is the preferred method of transportation in Tel Aviv, and with a three-mile-long beachside boardwalk, where you can cruise to your heart’s desire, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the view. We recommend exploring the Neve Tzedek area or taking a stroll down Rothschild Boulevard, Tel Aviv’s main street. Both offer fascinating architecture, great restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. Furthermore, a visit to the Sarona market is not to be missed.
The once busy Old Tel Aviv Port has gone through major revitalization since being closed in the 1960s and has turned into one of the most popular entertainment districts of the city. Cozy cafés, trendy boutiques, delectable restaurants and seaside bars now rest on the wooden docks. This is the perfect place to spend a fun and relaxed evening.
For sunbathers the Gordon-Frishman Beach comes highly recommended. Located besides Tel Aviv’s most popular hotel areas the beach has powdery sands and great views of the Mediterranean.
